Sbb, may I use your poem above on our thread "We can and we will?". It would really help us. Won't do so without your permission. Cheers, Mixer

Away on business this week and realise I have totally lost my appetite for sport.

I feel having escaped from the evil clutches of gambling I now have head space to concentrate on something more positive in the new year.

God forbid I might even buy a fitbit and lose some weight !

For those of you just starting out, I'm now ten weeks in and my life has turned around dramatically....stick with it, ride the storm, the waters do get calmer!

Looking forward to my first financially stress free Xmas in many many years.

Have a strong day everyone !!

Hey SBB,

Glad to hear you're doing well mate and thanks for your continued support on my diary.

I bought a Fitbit in March and I've put on weight!!! Although the stresses of gambling combined with comfort eating have contributed to that more than anything.

I'll be knocking off the pounds after Xmas, both the debt and weight wise. Fitbit is quality though. Go for it!! I have he one where it tells you you're heart rate and sleep quality. The difference in the last week for me is incredible.

I have decided to reset my counter and join the WCAWW group all starting yesterday.

I have my app and know mentally I am on day 74 and will make my century in mid January, but decided walking together is better than walking alone.

My mantra is that it is better to be part of something than something be part of me.

Hopefully the fact that I am one of the elder statesmen (In gamble free days), will allow me to share my strength and help get all of us to our goal of 100 days on 23rd March.

To anyone reading.....have a wonderful and successful day.

I have read many diaries over the last two or three months, and the majority of the stories have resonated and many of the dastardly deeds and flawed decisions have mirrored my own.

However I am concerned that i am not feeling the guilt anywhere near as much as everyone else (i should do, as by god i have screwed up big time and regulary over the years).

I just suppose my thinking is that i cant change what i have done, and all i can impact is today and the future.

My mantra is this: I'm daring enough to accept myself as a bundle of possibilities and undertake the most interesting game in the world - making the best out of what i am.

I just feel looking back and stirring the old feelings and emotions is not for me - cold? callous ? possibly !

I have made peace with myself for my mistakes and learned to love myself again.

It for me has been the key to winning this battle.

Keep winning SBB.....your thinking doesn't sound flawed to me. Being gf means being able to live in the moment and not to try and escape from it, truly engaging with the people around us, being gf opens a lifetime of opportunities.

Now realising some of the root causes of where my addiction came from.

Depite having to dredge up some awful memories and emotions, i think it is part of the healing process.

In some ways it is helping give myself permission to realise there was a reason, (rather than me being selfish/and nuts).

Whilst the choices i made were 100 percent my own doing, i feel a little more at ease knowing where the monster eminated from most of the time.

Lets call it the 'monster in the room', i have to as it is still here!

Last night the monster was at its angriest, shouting and blowing steam, and despite not feeling a gambling wobble coming on, i did feel like i had had the preverbial kicked out of me.

I am now moving into the next stage of my recovery - What to do about the monster!!

Its the very early stages of my strategy development, and im sure i need advice and seek opinion along the way.

All this will come in time, its just cathartic to now know the monster wasnt necessarily me!

Hi
SBB,

The monster in the room is you. Its only when we understand & accept this that we become willing to put the work into where it is required. Change in our perspective of ourselves our environment & others. Change, personal growth, connection, community, purpose are the places where freedom is found

Dan - With nearly 10 years on the clock, I better listen 🙂

I am currently in transition from unconscious incompetance to conscious incompetance.

I appreciate that its about far more than the gambling and the things you mention are very strong aspirations for me.

Happy to be 78 days down a road on which i at least know the destination.

Best wishes

Sbb

Hi SBB,

Just read your line about unconscious incompetance to conscious incompetence....I remember writing a thing about that in my own diary some time ago. I thought it was an interesting concept. Sounds like you're making a very important transition. 'm glad to hear that you're willing to put the work in. It's hard, but worth it.

And yes, Dan knows a thing or two about this so worth taking his ideas on board! 🙂
