Hi all,

I just want to share my story and be part of this forum, so hopefully I can get ride off this awful addiction.

I have had enough and really am so determined to kick this out of my system, i want to be happy again and really free.. not sitting fixed on the screen to see if the picked team scored, watching the time... getting stressed, anxious.. nerves, head, all your body aching. Winning or most likely loosing, the circle gets repeated.. and the only one thing sure out of that.. that you would be on loosing trend.

When getting fed up from sport betting all over the world, with teams i can't even spell or read, trying the luck on roulette and spin your head... with eyes fixed on ball rolling.. No matter, you win or loose.. overall you would loose it all again and much more.

I have been gambling since 2007, the results are looses of over ВЈ250k.. it could be more towards the £300k. Being in good jobs all to pay for bettings operators.

Couple of years ago I did trash about 12k in couple of days.. year ago I managed to loose even more £15k within 2 days. These kicks come after loosing spree on football bets, always one team would let you down.. you know the story, it always near miss.. go crazy, chasing the losses.. to loose more. What losses.. it's too late, just trying to get the looses of last 2 or 3 days.. you keep doing it. It seems so close, it's never close, more losses and more pain.

Extremely tired.. my head really in pain, how on earth.. someone would invest in something 12 years, to loose hundered of thousands and be in pain.
There is no fun or thrill.. definitely not, the looses and feeling trashed outweigh the rare thrills of win.

I am going to beat that.. and enough.

I do really wish for everyone has this problem to be able to escape.. and be free.

Gla, MA

Good luck - I wish you all the best in this battle against gambling addiction.

The head part is finally admitting you have a problem that is more powerful than you which you have done now. For extra support you could try GP or counselling or GA meetings. I didn't want to go to GA meetings at first because I didn't want to fully admit I have a problem but after being encouraged to go I find them most helpful... Like a weekly medicine.

The longer you don't gamble the better your life will be.
Best of luck.

Hello MA82,

Welcome to the forum and well done for posting here.

It sounds like you are very much caught up in your gambling still, but posting here is a step in the direction towards recovery. If you are based in Britain, you can call us on freephone 0808 8020 133 for information on our free treatment appointments if you'd like a free weekly 1-2-1 sessions to support your progress in recovery... you could have your sessions face-to-face, or by telephone, or by live videolink. We can also give you information on other types of local support. We can also give you details of free blocking software and self-exclusion schemes.

0800 138 6518 is the freephone for GamStop, the national self-exclusion scheme for online gambling, they're available 8am to midnight, 7 days a week. https://www.gamstop.co.uk/contact-us

Our forum members sometimes post 'If nothing changes then nothing changes', in other words, while motivation and aspiration are essential, for recovery to occur then actions also need to be taken, changes need to be made, so you have made a good start by posting here on the forum, and it may be that you also take further actions, for example blocking your access to online gambling, to further your progress.

Take care,

Forum admin.
