Day 0

I gambled again. I am getting myself deep in a financial mess. I need to stop for a few months at least just to see if I have a chance of reducing my debts each month. Very numb at the moment. I am just wasting my life in bookmakers and sitting in the house being antisocial due to lack of cash and not wanting to be around people in this mood.

I can never gamble again.

Hi degen Adam here, as we know all too well gambling brings along all the things you ve just mentioned. It is such an antisocial thing. I'm allways tempted t ok go back to it but I know deep down its the wrong thing to do. Ur money can be better spent. Forget about ur debts for the time being untill uve got up to ur feet again. I know like me uve really struggled with this over the years, but also think of the amount of days between us we've managed to not gamble due to this site. So don't count the days yet concentrate on getting stronger and focus on ur well being. After a month when money is possible you can concentrate on the social side of ur life. Maybe look on internet this month ointo clubs or gyms that u wouldd like to join when possible. After all everything uvwould like in life is possible if we don't gamble. I'll keep looking I on u mate.

Thanks mate, I will do the same and I expect I will see you in Chat now and again. I need to start attending Chat and updating Diary to help keep my mind focused.

Day 1

Payday is next week and I had a few quid left in my account. Usually I burn all my money before payday and start a new gamble free period on payday. I decided to treat myself to a nice meal after gym and cinema today. Kept really busy.

Tried to refinance a loan I have and got an Agreement In Principle. All I have to do is show them a bank statement. Oh bother. A couple of gambling transactions and many withdrawals of too much cash and I forgot to mention one of my DDs. I have no chance of acceptance but I really need to reduce monthly outgoings. Sigh.

how much is ur current debt mate? have u got any payday loans? what apr interest is it on? maybe call step change if ur paying out a lot of ur current income each month and not leaving yourself with much left s they may be able to freeze the interest. Then you can get back to no debt quicker and build from there. Do as much research into this as you can as it could make ur life a whole lot more easier mate. Keep me posted. c u on chat.

I need a few months under my belt to determine whether my debts are manageable when I stay out of the bookmakers. I will consider StepChange around New Year. I have been on their website and been looking into my future options.

If things get too much here is what you can do. I did this some years ago it saved my bacon at the time . Sit down and write down the amount of money you have each week comming in most probably from your wage. Then write down everything you pay out of that wage. If at the end of it it comes to £50.00 a week or less to live on you can ask step change to arrange a Debt Relief Order. What you have to do is prepare these outgoings before you call them . I admit I cheated a bit on mine to get it under the £50 a week limit. If you can wrangle it then go for the Debt Relief Order. Mine lasted for 1 year . No creditors were allowed to hassle me, No letters no nothing once it went through. No money had to be paid to any creditor and once the year is up you are free from the debts. The critical part is showing you are left with under £50 a week every week .

Involves no appearing at the bankrupcy courts or names going in the papers. The only place it shows is on the bankrupcy register here : https://www.gov.uk/search-bankruptcy-insolvency-register

Thanks, I had not heard of a DRO. Seems to be quite a few options for financial help that I should consider. I have more than £50 leftover at the moment but I expect my CC debts to creep up a bit when the interest free periods end. Going to wait and see how bad it gets before I pick one of the options.

Hi Deg

Think you were one of first ones to welcome me on chatline 84 days ago when i first came on so thanks for that. Sorry to hear about your relapse and i get it about not wanting to go out or be around people when your down. Ive gambled for over 40 years and since i learned about online gambling in 2006 i lived in a laptop credit card gambling bubble til eventually everyone stopped wanting to be around me.

Ive felt your pain a million times cos for years i tried to do it on my own failure after failure but kept lying to everyone id stopped lie after lie. Usual story maxed up credit card full of regret for a day or 2 then another credit card another day. I was always convinced i was gonna win it all back. Now i realise it aint gonna happen. Try again mate youre a decent bloke with an addiction and i can relate to all the pain youre feeling when you fall but you owe it to yourself and your loved ones to recover.

Good Luck mate looking forward to hearing from you on chatline and hearing tales of progression and recovery.

Kind Regards

AL

Hi deg

just wondering how you are? I haven't been on chat for a few days so may have missed you there. Hope that you are managing to stay gf and not being too hard on your self. You can do it, one day at a time. Things will get better if you stay gf.

I did not have a bet on the Grand National 🙂. I didnt consider having a bet all day and wasnt planning to watch a race. At last moment, I decided to watch the race though. Meh.
