thanks steve and Lili,
I have been spending again today!!! eek! I do have to reign it in a bit, as I have a tendency to 'comfort shop'. However, today was a sensible purchase - a coat reduced from £50 to £17, and one that I know I will wear to death. Sometimes you buy something and hardly wear it, but I know Im going to get my value out of this. So there you go, have justified it to myself 😉
o*g I love the flat we went to view this morning! It was repossessed from the last owner, so it is a frickin steal. The bank need to recover their money so they dont want it to sit on the market for 3 years at its true market value. Its really quite sad that we can only afford a flat this way, feels a bit like cashing in on someone's misfortune, but feeling bad isn't going to get the old owner their flat back so, you know - business is business!
I really hope we get it because it has been beautifully kept. Our landlord would have to spend about £15k to get our flat as nice as this one. Trying not to get hopes up, but failing miserably! lol.
Nothing more than fleeting thoughts of gambling today. Day 21 is in the bag folks!
Hi f,
I know that you'll have to reign the spending in at some point, but justify it by thinking of how quickly you could have gambled £17. A true bargain spending it on something you can see and use I think!
Got fingers crossed for the flat.

We went to view what we thought was another flat in the same building this morning (as it was described as 1 bedroom, rather than 2) it turned out to be the same one!
We still liked it after a second look, but its funny how you see different things the second time. The estate agent mentioned a cash buyer being interested. This may have been to keep us keen, but if it was true we probably don't stand a chance. It would take weeks to sort out a mortgage - and we were hoping to offer slightly less than the asking price.
However, what will be will be! I have already seen another for the same price, and we are viewing that on Monday. It is exciting! and its excitement about something positive rather than gambling stress. It does worry me how much I seem to NEED excitement though. I feel very flat without something to focus on, but I guess we are all like that to some extent.
Day 22 and the bank balance is still in the black. I have put £40 into my savings this month, and paid double on my minimum credit repayments. Im feeling really good about that 🙂
Im very excited that my friend has offered to do a car boot sale with me too! I need her, because I dont have a car!!! ha ha ha! that will all go in the holiday fund. Things, dare I say it? , are looking up very slowly!
Hi Freda,i wouldn't get worried about the estate agent saying he has a cash buyer in the wings, even if it's true that buyer would be offering a lot less than you :),why don't you test the water with an offer?,the agent would then have to put that to the vendor/bank.Nothing ventured and all that.
Seano.
Hi Freda,
Good to hear that things are looking up.. erm thats it really.. no waffle from me lol
Happy days.. S.A 🙂
Hi Freda
Things are definatley looking good for you.
I hope all works out with the flat.
Excitement and enjoyment in one go not like gambling eh.Good to see you saving too.All the best Jeff.
Hi Freda
I hope you made an offer on the flat you saw twice Freda. Estate agents use standard language they know puts people on edge, to make them make offers quickly, and higher than they otherwise would. You can also offer on any other properties you see, like and can afford, until of course you actually exchange contracts. Don’t let estate agents bother you.
I liked the bit about your need for a car boot 🙂
Have a great weekend
Himmat
Thank you for your lovely words on my diary sweetie. Oh this pad buying game can get a bit stressful but don`t let the estate agents grind you down.
Hi Freda (K)
Thanks for your posts, sorry for going all quiet, just couldnt face anything realy! Thanks for keeping an eye on me, your a sweety!
Anyway great to read things are on the up, congrats on the gamble free time. Agree with Graham dont let them estate agents grind you down.
Hope life continues to improve for you, your the high five queen!
Genuine thanks for all your support and kindness. take care, ands xxx
Thanks guys, just happy you are safe ands 🙂
We have been told they will accept our offer on the flat, once we have shown them proof that we have a mortgage offer! its all very exciting! I hope we dont get gazumped, if nothing else it sounds rather painful 😉
Exciting times...Im aware that I will be vulnerable to gambling thoughts in a time of such heightened excitement. This recovery lark, is a real learning curve. I have learned through my mistakes that I am prone to temptation when I am "buzzing". I am glad I have kept the newest barrier in place - my husband holds on to my debit card for the forseeable. It seems to be working so far, and Im coming up to 4 weeks bet-free now.
That's great news for you both Freda,......,now is the time for patience!!!,it's a frustrating time buying a property, seems to take forever.
Seano.
Glad to hear of your good news freda 🙂 as for gambling with all the excitement,...theres just a wee problem there.,your husband has your cards so nae chance there eh !!! 😉 well done on approaching the month bet free,we can do this 🙂
thanks for your posts guys 🙂
my head is done in, I have been running round like a mad woman trying to get this flat bought before we get outbid and its knackered me out.
I got a call from an underwriter this afternoon, to say that they were withdrawing their offer of a mortgage due to my unacceptable credit record. So back to the drawing board!
Although Im a compulsive gambler, the only bad credit I have is a credit card balance that has hung over me for a few years since Ive been on the sick. Its not massive, and we are paying off the balance this week - but still the underwriter man say 'no can do!'
Considering we have a 15% deposit this seems rather harsh.
Hi f,
It does seem a bit harsh. Don't let the disapointment set you back though. These frustrations will test your patience but hang in there and things will work themselves out i'm sure. Well done on your abstinance from gambling.
