Hi I'm laurence a 26 year old male who has been battling addiction for the past 11 years, I am currently in a rehabilitation centre for drug and alcohol abuse I've now been clean for 9 months but I have been cross addicting by gambling and has got worse and worse by the day, I don't gamble for the financial benifits if I win I gamble until I have nothing left! , I've made 2 big steps towards recovery today, 1 I've self excluded from all the book makers in my area, 2 I've also called gamcare and the nice lady on the phone has reverd me to counseling, I'm going to take this a day at a time.

That's fantastic news that youv'e been clean for 9 month's from drug's and alcohol and all credit to you for achieving that as it can't have been easy my friend , I think if we have an addictive nature it can be so easy to switch from one form to another but It's a testiment to yourself that youv'e realised you have another issue with Gambling and are activly seeking help to overcome this :)) .
This forum can be a great place to learn what you need to know in order to fight this addiction , lot's of advice and having a diary is a great way of venting your fellings , chatting with others who know what your going through and recording your journey as it unfold's .
I honestly don't think any of us as Compulsive Gamblers can say they "Gamble for financial gain " It may start out like that at first but quickly becomes about the rush that gambling provide , just as it does with Drug's and Drink and as we all know that Initial rush becomes harder to recreate the more we indulge :(( .
