Hi all,
Â
I hope everyone is doing well.
4.5 years without a bet for me.
I have been invited by a work colleague to play a game a paddle tennis (doubles).
He has just messaged me with the information that "losing team buys the first round".Â
Is this gambling?
By no means do I feel any urge to win or lose more as a result of this.
It isn't a work colleague that knows about my problem or one that I am happy to share at this stage?
What are your thoughts?
Many thanks.

Hi Jay
I guess that's a question ultimately you need to ask yourself. It also depends how open you are with your gambling problem and 4 and a half years in recovery. I play a lot of golf where the same question comes up. When I gave up two months ago after 44 years of gambling too many years by far I decided that if I was asked the question above, got given anything like a scratch card or asked to buy raffle tickets I will reply I can't. I think most people would know what that means and not ask further questions. In terms of a raffle I would say I can't but I am more than happy to make a donation instead. My gambling problem was so bad that even in years to come I don't want to risk any form of chance and reward betting, raffles, lottery, scrathcards, gentlemans bet with friends etc as it's not worth the risk that it could trigger another downfall and rock bottom. I've had too many of those over the years. That's just my own thoughts

Aye it gambling mateÂ
Hi Stuart,
Thanks for the advice. I totally agree.
I got some good advice from the chatroom that evening.
I informed him that I don't gamble and as a result cannot be involved in this. As it happens the doubles opponents had to shoot off straight away so we just stayed for one and headed off.
Thanks all.
J
Hi Jay
That all worked out then. I do think people would understand. If not they aren't worth knowing
