Hi everyone I’m new here, my biggest mistake happened around 3 months ago when I saw an add to deposit £10 for 100 free spins, never been a gambler and never could wrap my head around people being addicted to gambling 🫣 I have adhd and have always been very impulsive with spending especially clothes but never would I put my self into debt I just didn’t ever save my money but live very comfortably! As I said the first deposit happened it was for abit of fun and I played really low stakes every now and then and had a few small wins all under £100 which I was buzzing about until one night I won £5000 which felt amazing until I started putting it back on with much higher stakes loosing it very quickly trying to get more than the £5000 I should have been happy with! Long story short I lost it and won it all back twice over the space of a few weeks. I am now down to £700 of my winnings and I feel sick at what I have done but still have the urge to keep trying with the last of the winnings to get it back, yet I know how the cycle goes for me it’s like I have to put it back as if it’s not real money and no win is enough! I just keep going. I have a partner and children and I don’t want to do this anymore it knocks me sick thinking of all the things I could have done with that money for them but I threw it all away so quickly. I know there are so many people in a much worse position and that is what scares me I don’t want to get to that place, I’ve blocked my banks and some how always find a way around it when I get the urge. Sorry it’s such a long post well done if you made it this far 😄 I have a gambling problem even if it’s only been for a short time I think it’s time I stop this for good as I can see the mess it causes, it’s not all slots it’s big bass that draws me in everytime! What do I do now ? How long does it take before the urges stop I’m struggling it’s on my mind constantly and since starting gambling only now do I see ads absolutely everywhere for gambling sites!😩

Hi there,

Thank you for reaching out to GamCare, it's good that you have shared your story and we are always here to support you. You could consider registering with GamStop, they will ban you from the UK based sites for a minimum of 6 months. Then, you could consider downloading GamBan blocking software which blocks gambling sites: Claim your FREE Gamban Licence. - Gamban    You can also consider bank blocks which can block gambling transactions. As well as blocks, we offer free 1-1 a lot like counselling, and you can reach out to our Helpline 24/7 via 0808 802 0133.

We are always here for you, take care of yourself and reach out to us anytime for support.

Hi kk

Thank you for taking part in the chatroom and talking. It's a brave thing to do. You really shouldn't be beating yourself up. The insight in what you have written should be commended. You have recognised the signs of this getting out of control and need to arrest the illness before it gets anymore momentum. Well done for that

As Ally said, get Gamstop in place and gamban on all your devices. This will block you online and you already have bank blocks in place.

I would also suggest putting Moses and sense in place even if you only play Big Bass online.

Urges are different for everyone so there's no set time for them to subside but they do. Life is so much better without gambling but as you've only bet for a short period you know that. Speak to the advisors by clicking the talk to someone button. They are amazing and can help

Please can I just say one thing, one massive piece of advice ?

Just because you have only gambles for a few months, please don't underestimate your addiction. I would strongly suggest coming to as many chatrooms as you can. This will give you some form of accountability. Taz is on there every night and has been for years.
