Yes - from my perspective

That subject line may sound like an oxymoron. Is it possible to go through the pain, urges, thoughts to return, addiction calling you and enjoy it.

If I was asked that in the first two months by someone I would have laughed but not anymore. I actually enjoy my recovery. I enjoy sharing and the connection between another person and myself who understands and simply "gets" me. So many people think gambling is a life choice. Well it is for most, just like drinking, eating etc but addiction is no life choice.

Years of chaos led me to recovery. Was broken and there was only one last rock bottom below me which I thought about getting the jack hammer to cut through to but thank goodness I didn't. Over recent weeks I've learned that I enjoy my journey of recovery. I'm more than happy that this is a life long road which means there is more enjoyment to come. Not only do I enjoy the support, conversations, simplifying my life, the ability to handle stress, to face life and it's challenges but most of all I enjoy not having a bet today, just for today and yes this is one day at a time but I enjoy that feeling of being free from the master that is addiction and breaking the control my addiction has over me.

Thank you so much for this, I really needed it today. If you weren’t on the chatrooms, I probably would have gone back to gambling if I’m honest. Your constant willingness to help and give advice and encouragement means more than you probably realise. It genuinely makes a difference on the difficult days.

The journey you’ve been on over the last 100 days is so positive and inspiring, and the fact that you still show up each day to help others, regardless of what your own day has been like, says a lot about the kind of person you are. Your strength, honesty, and kindness really shine through.

I want to echo what Taz said you truly are an inspiration. You give people hope and remind us that change is possible with the right mindset and support. Please keep doing what you’re doing. It matters, and it helps more people than you probably know. Thank you again for being such a positive force in the chatrooms.

Hi Carmen

Now you are trying to get me emotional , thank you so much for those words but it's you and your strength keeping you out of action and in recovery, you are amazing. From where you were to where you are and still facing challenges is no short of a miracle and that miracle is you.

I love recovery and I think reading and replying to people is a part of everyone's recovery just like sharing and listening in a meeting

Thank you Adam. I only wrote this to because I've been thinking about it and wanted to get it off my chest. It's too easy for all of us to live in shame and that's not healthy. We need to feel pride, we need to know what we are trying to accomplish and no longer exist in the shadows of our true selves. That new life which is so amazing is built through recovery and enjoyment of that statement. One we learn to forgive and learn how to enjoy again then we truly start to heal.

The only thing to do when you are going through is keep going. Heard that today and love it

Stuart, I am still away  with limited WiFi access. Today in Lanzarote, weather-wise warmer and sunnier. Will be back to chatrooms on Sunday to say hello again. I look forward to that. Take care.

Hi Ann

It was 18 degrees here last week but back to being freezing cold. Hope you are having a great holiday. The chatrooms are missing your wise words of hope and of course culinary tips. See you Sunday.
