Age 44

Gambling addict for 12 years

Losses 250k

Gamble free for 140 days

After 140 days gamble free, my debts have dropped below 40k. Still nothing to be proud about but after such devastating losses & so many attempts at being gamble free. But I now have a foundation to build on.

This has to be my time to nail this once and for all. Last year I managed 200 days gamble free, I must surpass this and put this all behind me this time.

I wish I could fast forward time to get this debt paid off or better still rewind the time back but addiction has led me to where I am today & it is only me that can overcome it.

When people say what caused their gambling addiction, I can honestly say I don’t know. I remember always being fascinated with money and saving money growing up & combined with the love of football was that the Catalyst to it?

I had an eating disorder when I was 14, which I overcome after losing a lot of weight, maybe it is all linked to my brain with addiction? Maybe it was something I was born with?

More importantly I am dedicated and determined to remain on track to stay gamble free and to see my debts reduce each month.

Take care

Well done ! It’s absolutely huge to see how much lower your debt is . Don’t let it overwhelm you though , your debts will be paid but it takes time . You should be really proud of how far you have come !

Dear Kickstart,

That is fantastic news - well done.  It took me a good while to pay my debts also, I rarely focus on my losses as there is no point to it, we can't go back.

I just wanted to add, that throughout my life I have had many, many addictions, some  in tandom with gambling.  I feel it is within my personality, also addictions helped me cope with life and at the times it helped me to feel more confident, more accepted and took away other thoughts of worthlessness.

Now I am focused on getting better, and lead a kinder, gentler life, I want that to be my addiction.

Have a lovely day.

Kylie.

Fantastic King!👏👏👏👏.

The only advice I would suggest is to not dwell on the past or the future. In particular, regarding your debt! Instead, think of today and how well you have done/are doing to bring this down. Telling yourself “each month my debt is decreasing” is so much better than thinking “I wish I could get rid of this debt quicker”.

I had 43k of debt when I very first came on here. That is now done to 27k and I am happy enough with this but it has taken me several years to get here.

My mantra around my debt is “steady wins the race” 😝. Also, I just remind myself that every month, my debt is reducing. End of!!👍

Keep going King. You have got this!💪🙏.

Pink Lady 🩷🍎.

Hi mate

It's so good to hear from you. I would look at the debt more from a side of what it could have been if you didn't stop again. What you have achieved bringing it down ? It's only going to come down from here. Like recovery there isn't a finishing line because once the debt is down to zero you will move forward with your savings. You will have savings at the age of 50. Wish I could say that mate

Keep going my brother from another lover. Not quite old enough to be your dad lol
