Hi I'm new to this and I'm at my wits end, my ex partner has always been a gambler but the past 9 months has been probably the worst ever and it's hard as have a child together. I've kept giving him money and blown money that had been put away for inheritence

Hi, sorry to hear you are feeling so low 🙁 You will get lots of great support here & you can also use the services of Gamcare because this is something you suffer through no fault of your own!

Please stop dishing out money (I know this can be impossible) & take whatever steps you can to protect yourself & your child!

I think one of the others will be along soon with some better support! This is not your problem, you shouldn't be paying financially for it especially to an ex!

Be strong - ODAAT

Hi downinthedumps

I am a recovering CG.

As previous posters have said, don't feed him any more money. All you are doing is enabling him to gamble. You may think you are helping him out of a tough situation, and have all the best intentions but you need to put a halt to that now. If he has to survive on noodles for a week, that is his problem. A lot of CGs, me included, have had to survive on those 2 minute noodles. Yummy! 😉

If he is your ex, I assume that you do not have any joint accounts? Protect yourself from him financially. We have been known to steal money from children's coin boxes. Do not trust him.

judging from your post, it seems that you are still on reasonable terms? If so, you can by all means help him with moral support, but that is all. If he wants to stop he can, but it is entirely up to him. You can not make him stop.

If you feel it is all getting you down, don't forget that Gamcare have a free counselling service that you can use. It is always good to have a chat every now and then, just to get everything off your chest.

Take care
