Hi all,
I have just joined the site as I have now realised I need to do something. I appear to be gambling to the point of returning to my overdraft every month when I get paid. I don't really know how to stop it, I honestly didn't believe it was an addiction! I'm hoping talking to others who understand will help me get sorted.
Look forward to speaking to you.
Thanks
Hi Pyro_lough
I am a recovering CG.
Put barriers in place to help prevent yourself to gamble. If you gamble online, install some blocking software. If you use cash or cards, don't carry the cards or cash if you don't need to. If you have access to money, cards or online sites, and you have no barriers in place, you will gamble.
Have you told anyone in your family of your problem? Support is a big plus in fighting this addiction. Can somebody take control and monitor your finances for a period of time? GA is another good option for you. They can help you through these tough times. They have all been there, done that, and probably worse. 😉
Read through some of the threads on this forum. You will then be able to understand just where this addiction can lead you. Life can, and probably will be full of debt, misery, regrets, lost relationships etc. if you continue to gamble.
You can stop gambling if you really want to. It depends on just how much you want to stop, and if you are willing to help yourself. Put the barriers in place, attend GA and/or counselling, and get a good support base.
Best wishes
