So my gambling has been getting progressively worse. Its now got to the point where I feel my head is constantly arguing with itself ... I don't want to spend my hard earned money and waste it all away but the gambling side of my brain keeps winning and I just feel the constant urge to gamble all the time!
Nobody knows about it and I want to attend a meeting but i'm scared to go along myself. I just wish I could kick that stupid gambling voice out of my head 🙁 I don;t even know how I emded up this way!I'm not a person who caresabout money ... it's great to have but i'm a happy person with a big family and relaise there is more important things in this world but now its all I think about, I hate it!
Welcome, I posted today for the first time too. What you say seems similar to me, I work long weeks and My money is hard earned however I seem to blow it in 1 weekend on payday and then live with nothing for 28 days out of the month. It's got to the point now where my partner says to me there's always something going wrong with ur bank or ur wages why can't it just be normal. If it continues she will find out and I will lose everything. Welcome to the day 1 of our life change 🙂
Yeah I really hope I can tackle this. I'm currently a student who just completed an honours degree- on route to being a primary teacher. I just got myself a part time job as a childcare practitioner which I am so happy about. I have a wee bro and sis who mean the absolute world to me ... All my family are happy and healthy.I have a nice car, nice house and have a holiday booked with the family. Why I feel the need to put myself through this I do not know.
Hi k130
I am a recovering CG.
The members of the GA fellowship are very welcoming. Don't be nervous. They all have one thing in common with you, and they will be all to willing to help you. Go in with an open mind, and if you do talk (you don't have to), be honest. They can't help you if you aren't honest about your gambling.
I would recommend that you tell your family of your problem. They can only support you if they know you have a problem. Could someone look after your finances for a short time? By short time, I really mean a minimum of 6 months, and preferably at least 1 year. Some members hand over their finances to their partner and never want to take control back, lest they get an urge to gamble again.
Read through some of the threads on the forum so that you are aware of where the addiction can lead you. You can stop if you want to, but you will need help along the way. Don't be afraid to ask for it. It is not an admission of weakness, more an admission that you know you have a problem and want to do something about it.
Best wishes
