Hello my name is Jay

And I have a problem with gambling, I don't really gamble during the month but around pay day the urges and exciteme,nt become very hard to control, and it's the same cycle sometimes i  can sit a machine for hours .  sometimes I win and walk away and then as I still have money I go back the next day and gamble..it's only when I get down to an amount I realise I still have bills to pay I'm usually short for  the rest of the month.

I'm Frankly tired of it . hopefully I can get some tips on how to control these urges.

I am starting counselling soon with break even service

The only way is to get control is to stop as gambling is a vicious circle of win a bit lose alot constantly . House always wins in the end. Its also mentally destructive, Ive been a gambler for 30 years but started back up on here n have had reform coaching and go chatroom regularly and that really has helped me so much. I've had enough of the merry go round of gambling its torture so I'm doing everything I can to access all the support available on here. On chatroom your not alone we are all there to open up and chat about whatevers on our minds and receive motivation and support. There a 24 hr line if u need one to one therapy which is amazing. Hope to chat soon

Win some lose a lot. The cycle will always be the  betting will go up higher to chase the loss. Plan to do something that will distract around the pay day time. Keep yourself busy with other things.  Even use part of the money you originally plan to use for gambling to go  away for a day after payday to treat yourself and your loved ones. Do come to  8pm chatroom. Other members will give you more ideas on how to resist the urges for gambling.

Hi Jayem

Binge gambling is still compulsive gambling but at least you want to do something about it. Well done for opening up and thank you for sharing this. Have you got the blocks in place like MOSES, Sense, Gamstop, Gamban and card blocks for gambling at your bank ? You can also reduce your daily cash withdrawal limit.

Do you have anyone you can be accountable to ? As in showing your banking app or giving someone access so it's obvious if you gamble ?

Try and come to the chatrooms tonight at 6pm, 7pm or 8pm

I used to have a similar pattern where the urge hit hardest when money first came in. What helped me was putting a bit of distance between me and the decision to gamble. When the urge came I would tell myself to wait a day before doing anything. Most of the time the feeling passed if I didn’t act on it straight away.

Another thing that helped was reminding myself how I usually felt after gambling. The excitement is very short but the regret lasts much longer.

It’s good that you’re looking for help and starting counselling. That shows you want things to change and that’s a strong place to start.
