New to this. Gambler 12 years ...compulsive gradually over time. Was at GA for couple years..few slips along way. Havent been in a year..in that year savings have been ruined(not empty yet but near) ..have a large overdraft(not first time) ..not used any payday loans (but have before). And have a family..all oblivious to my habit..im expert liar!(ashamed but just being honest). At the moment im very low...have used every gambling website going! Then closed or self excluded for long period time. Sick of stress ...lies...worry. im like a puppet (strings on top) and the gambling is puppet master. Im totally blind to this it seems...totally POWERLESS. TIME TO FIND MYSELF AND LOSE GAMBLING
Hello Justjoseph
Welcome to the forum.
Well done for trying something new by joining the forum. The forum helps many people and can help you too.
GamCare offer the forum, netline, a chatroom, helpline and free counselling to help you with this addiction. Get involved, try things and see what works for you. I can see you have made a supportive start to helping others which is great.
Installing blocking software might help you.
StepChange are used by many people to help manage debt.
Maybe telling you're family could be the big step you need to help you beat this.
Things have to change, you will need to do things differently - posting here is a good start.
Read around the forum to see how different people deal with their gambling addiction. Plenty of advice and experience to tap into.
Look forward to following your progress.
As fittingly Rage Against the Machine sang - Take the Power Back!
Blessings

Thanks glint for your kind words and helpful advice. Its time to take the power back...iv been under the spell for a long long time and its taking its toll hugely. Im from northern ireland so i dont believe the counselling is available here but i would take it if available. Gambling will become an epidemic in time..due to the absolute easiness of access to it. Good luck to everyone on here
..lets kick this
Hi JJ, I see Glint has already welcomed you to the forum so I look forward to hearing which advice you are going to start with 🙂
Your profile upset me. Death is painful enough without a family finding out that it's occurred because of a deeply guarded secret...Please don't let addiction drag you into that hole 🙁
We can tame the beast & yeah, it does take hard work & honesty something that isn't high in our list of priorities as compulsive gamblers but it's possible! Don't assume anything, phone GamCare & see if they can provide it & if not, speak to your GP...Being open to having it is half the battle, so focus on making it so. & get back to GA, you know it makes sense!
Start kicking - ODAAT
Hi JJ. I'm from N. Ireland also and I was directed to a place called Dunlewey for counselling. Their number is 0800 088 6725. I've been on a waiting list for a while but the sooner you ring the sooner you'll get sorted. I attend GA also which I find a massive help. Have you considered returning?
Hey guys thanks for your advice...hit me quite hard some of it. Yeah i am from northern ireland..so i must ring this number(providing its free because im quite deep in debt) and because im not on big wages ..thankfully i cant extend any credit or form of credit.
Its an absolute must i go back to GA..its where i felt i belonged..and where i felt i was most focused. I feel quite ashamed about going to a gp..what can they do? Dopamine would help. Im quite stressed depressed at moment..feel like signing oofff work for a while to set my head straight
GA it is then 🙂
If you click on the GamCare homepage, the yellow dot will take you to their Netline...I'm guessing this will allow you to discuss counselling options via the web?
Your GP can do very little themselves except maybe medicate your depression...Over here, they provide referrals to relevant support groups & I would imagine it's pretty similar where you are! I wouldn't recommend signing off work if you can avoid it as that just makes your financial headache bigger & gives you time to think about the mess. Have you had a look online @ relaxation techniques? Might help.
I genuinely think walking back through the doors to GA will be a massive comfort to you! Don't sweat the other stuff yet, just focus on the next meeting you can get to & take things from there!
Hi Joseph, thanks for taking the time to read and post on my diary, while i do the diary for me i also do it for others to see that it can be done, get back to GA take control back and start winning for real again.
