Hi there, this is my first post and I'm looking for some support and encouragement to stop gambling please!
I don't gamble online but do gamble on the slot machines at motorway services. My job means that I travel a lot and I can't seem to go past the services without stopping to play the machines.
This has been going on for around 3 years and I'm around £17k in debt at the moment. I can just about control my finances if I stop now though I have. Loan and two maxed out credit cards.
My biggest fear is my partner finding out about the mess I'm in.
Also my mental wellbeing is poor at the moment and I know I'm under performing at work. All round stress.
I know I'm strong enough to stop and I tell myself I want to, only to pull in to the services again...
Help!
Ok support have you tried ringing gamcare get some help from them?
Reading many of the forums on here its possible to abstain from gambling but some need more help then just abstaining
speak to gamcare see if they can help
Hi K78 - I'm sure there are quite a few people on here who have the same problem - if not motorway services then plenty of opportunities to visit betting shops as they travel the country. Short of avoiding motorways (obviously not a practical strategy for you) then you will need to find other barriers to this pattern of behaviour, i.e. leaving credit cards at home and taking only enough cash for food, petrol etc.
If you are serious about recovery you will probably be able to think of other strategies but no doubt you will get some good advice from others on the forum.
Best wishes,
Joanna
