I can’t actually believe that I am here and writing this. I’ve got a gambling addiction, I thought I had it under control but I’m slowly losing my mind. It started off on an innocent bingo site years ago, never thought anything of it because it wasn’t a problem back then. I didn’t do it for years and then when I had my baby 2 years ago, I suffered with postnatal depression and gambling became my friend in my time of loneliness.

Roll forward 2 years and I’m gambling money I haven’t got, I panic and get scared and close down one account only to get the bug and open up another a couple of hours later. I’m getting married in October and I haven’t got enough money to pay for everything. I can’t tell my fiancГ© because we’ve been here before and I can’t let him down again. I’m in tears writing this because I can’t believe I’ve been so stupid. I’m now in my overdraft and although the amounts I’m gambling are probably nothing compared to others, it’s still money I haven’t got and I need to stop. I just don’t know how 🙁

Dear emcb82,

It is good that you have recognised how unhappy gambling continues to make you, and have asked for support from our forum users. It sounds like you may benefit from getting some additional advice by chatting to one of our Advisors on the HelpLine 0808 8020 133 on chatting on our Netline. As well as self-excluding from the gambling websites, you may wish to consider installing blocking software to further restrict access to gambling sites. Some of our forum users describe additional ways they limit their freedom to gamble online by arranging finances to slow down how quickly they can access money, by changing a debit card to a cash card and so on.

Please continue to post and reach out for help.

All the best,

Forum Admin.
