Hi all

I'm 37 yom with wife, 1.5 yr old and another on the way. Started in October with being introduced to stock trading on T212. I have an incredibly addictive personality and evident in various other forms throughout my life.

After some gambling on lucky trades I was up an unfathomable amount only to lose it and since then have just about liquidated my savings. The guilt and shame has given me insomnia, restlessness and dread non stop with the intrusive thoughts and sobering reality of my situation. I recognise the fault is no ones but mine, full of regret and the saving grace is our month to month bills are covered with our wages. I've just stripped our savings completely just about in a flash compared to the years we've saved. I may attend my first GA meeting tonight out of interest as feeling all too overwhelmed the last while.

Hi CM

It was good to meet you on the chat and it's a major success that you have recognised trading and crypto are the new forms of gambling. GA was a life saver for me and I can highly recommend it. There are face to face meetings all over the UK . If you go on the website each meeting has a contact number and they can meet you and chat before going into the meeting which helped me. You probably know that there are GA meetings 24/7 and can be accessed through gamblersinrecovery website. The UK ones are good and the 9pm daily Los Angeles international meeting is good.

Good luck on your recovery and hopefully see you on more chatrooms

Stuart

Hi CM

I am new to this site and the recovery process in general but your story is the first I came across and it really resonated with me.

I have been day trading (gambling) on the stock market for nearly 20 yrs. Even writing that down seems overwhelming, it has happened so fast.

I don’t think I am in any position to offer advise as I am at the start of my journey myself. The advise Stuart has given here is great and I will be taking it onboard myself.

I guess I just want to say that I can imagine how you are feeling as I have been there so many times. The fact that you say you were lucky on those trades is a great start as the worst and most addictive aspect of day trading is telling yourself it is not luck but skill, analysis etc. It took me a long time to realise this is not true and it is just another form of gambling. That you call it luck and seeing it for what it is will make not going back into it easier for you.

Good luck with your recovery
