Anyone else from NI? I feel incredibly alone and have nobody that I can turn to to talk to about my problem gambling. I can feel myself slipping back into the grip of addiction and I feel like I can’t stop. My every waking moment is spent thinking of gambling and I am waking up in the night with unbearable urges to gamble.

I just need somebody I can talk to.

It sounds as though it has been a hard time but you're taking a good step by seeking support.

Here are some resources in Northern Ireland you may find useful:

http://dunlewey.org/ offer free services to help those affected by gambling harm.

https://turascounselling.ie/

If you are in Drumcondra, Balbriggan, or Blanchardstown,  https://crosscare.ie/  provides free counselling to those affected by gambling.

The WGRC provides a low cost, comprehensive, community-based one-to-one support service to anyone affected by gambling harms - www.wgrc.ie

The Rutland Centre provides residential and outpatient services for men and women over 18 years of age. They are open to people from all over Ireland. This part of their service is paid, and is not available for free.  https://www.rutlandcentre.ie/

Please keep posting - you are not alone in this and we are here for you.

Warm wishes,

Sophie

Yep,

It's not easy but it is doable. Give someone you know full control of your money. Humbling yes, but sadly necessary. Move all your finances to a bank that doesn't allow gambling. Stick to a budget for daily things and only ever bring what money you need. No more.

Block yourself from all online gambling sites, walk in bookies too

One thing that kept me on the straight and narrow was to go read the confronting stories of the FAMILY board on here.... Family & Friends – GamCare Forum

This shows the FULL effect of how gambling could be ruining lives around you. When you read some of these stories, I find, the urge to gamble soon goes away.

If you do, stop watching gambling streams on youtube, twitch, kick etc These are the worst things you can do as it just makes the urges to gamble grow even more.

You're not a bad person, you're letting them control your life. If someone you didn't know told you that you must do what they say, you'd laugh them away. You need to do the same with gambling. They are controlling your life now and you need to stop them.

I wish you luck....remember....reading this will help you stop having thoughts to gamble Family & Friends – GamCare Forum
