My name is Dan I've been gambling since I was 15 I'm now 35.....Yesterday I lost £1000 out of the £1300 I had to my name.
I'm self employed and recently started a business in garden maintenance which I've previously worked in the industry for 6 years.
I have alot of things going for me including the business which is slowly starting to take off and building a customer base.
I contacted gamcare and they said to come here.
I recently looked at my statement on my bank and in the last 4/5 years I've gambled £72,000 I couldn't believe my eyes when I looked and saw this reality gas dawned on me a bit.
Â
I honestly cannot take this life anymore as long as gambling is in it because I set myself back so much from my goals it's incredibly dishearteningÂ
Â
So this is day 1 of my recovery and battle to not do this horrible life destroying things anymoreÂ
Â
And tips would be appreciatedÂ

Hi Dan
I absolutely love your subject line. Over a 44 year career of misery in gambling, every time I hit a rock bottom, Stuart got the old sledge hammer out and knocked through to yet another one.Â
The first thing to try and fix is the access to gamble to make things easy. You may already have this but for me I put the blocks in place whether I used these forms or not
Gamstop for all online operators
Gamban to block all gambling websites on all my devices
Self excluded with all my accounts just to make sure
Moses for bookmakers
Sense for casinos
There are others for arcades and bingo
I blocked my bank card from gambling
Reduced my limits and now use Monzo which charges withdrawals and has not branches
Final thing on this side was accountability. My amazing partner has access to my email and banking apps and can check whenever she wants and the same with my mum. Gives me and them peace of mind. I get receipts for everything I buy and put them in a pot at home.Â
After that I started to retrain my mind so I didn't want to gamble. All of the things that have worked for me are in the forum in the new section called do you want to give up gambling. All I would say it try them and see what works.
Affected by gambling?
