I’m so scared and so out of control.  My gambling was pretty controlled until the middle of last year, now it’s totally out of control and I can’t seem to stop.  I’ve spent a fortune online and just keep digging the hole deeper and deeper.  I’m so scared and alone in this struggle.Â
Hi
Thank you for your share and your honesty. It might feel like a frightening time but this community and this site is a good place for you to be.
Rather than bombard you with advice can I make a couple of suggestions that have helped keep me in early recovery as I'm only on 118 days gamble free after 44 years of daily addiction.
Firstly well done. It might not feel like it, but you have found this site, admitted to yourself and now others that you have a problem and are scared as you don't know how to stop it. Trust me, you can do it
If you click the icon talk to someone in the bottom right of the screen there is a team of amazing advisors that can help. You can either talk to them on the phone or live text chat if you are more comfortable with that. No one on this site will judge you, not the community or anyone who works for Gamcare. They can talk through things and are here 24/7. They can signpost you for help and speak about financial worries as well as the addiction. Refer you for free counselling and so much more, whatever you need. It sounds like me that you crossed that line from being able to gamble and not. For me there is no going back and it's all about avoiding that first bet.
The chatrooms on here are fantastic, especially the 8pm one each night. I miss Tuesday and Thursday as I have GA meetings but am on all of the others. You can see a list when you click the chatrooms option and some are topic based. Tomorrow there is one on financial help. The chatrooms are text only so no cameras and they are full of lived experience people. We all talk through our problems and support each other along with general chat. Going each day that I can helps me so much and they have all become friendsÂ
When you have a minute and I'm certainly not saying I'm an expert, I tried to write a helpful topic on here. If you click forum and then go to the new members intro then scroll down there is one called so you want to give up gambling. It's a list of things that I do all the time and have helped me get to today. There might be the odd thing on there that helps. Some might seem futile but just try them and see what sticks
I'm Stuart. In the recovery diaries section I put up my back story and it's called My Story. If you ever need support, have questions or just want to get something off your mind, Im here for you. Just put it on this diary entry by filling the box in and press reply or my diary is day one of what I hope is a new life in the recovery diaries section. Either way I will reply to you.
You can do this, it does get easier, not easy but easier even after the first month. Just take it one day at a timeÂ
