Hi all ,

so I’m new here . So a little bit about my story . Me and my partner used to occasionally gamble on the slot machines when we went to bingo and Blackpool nothing major just a bit of fun . Fast forward to 2 years ago and I lost a really close family member and my gambling got out of hand I was on the slot machines daily and I lost a total of around £15,000 I used all of my savings had multiple loans and credit cards but I broke down and came clean to my partner and he sat down with me and sorted out finances we managed to consolidate it all into one . Got to December last year and I stepped foot into a casino all on my own , I turned £20 into around £3000 in a couple of days and it was dangerous because since then I’ve not stopped I have gambled every day since , I have come clean to my partner multiple times and always said I would stop but never did . Yesterday I went into a casino again I took £1000 in with me , I got down to the last £50 and I put £25 on the 2 numbers I had been playing all night and guess what came in the neighbour to my numbers , that’s what changed it all for me . I have now come on here to get support and banned myself from all casinos . I’m really hoping to start feeling better soon , I want to move forward and put this behind me and start to clear my debt .
thank you all for listening to.

Hi Liv

Welcome to this community of people here to support each other with no judgement

I could bombard you with a blueprint to recovery but everyone's journey is different. A better life awaits you if you want it and the work you put into your recovery will be paid back ten fold

If you have crossed the line of no return then I have a few bits of advice which helped me through the early days

Have you put the self exclusion in with Sense ? Even if you only did one sort of gambling I would suggest putting in all the blocks so there are no grey areas to allow a relapse

Gamstop, Gamban on all devices, moses, self exclusion in arcades.

Banking wise, switch to a bank online only like Monzo that had no branches. On the app block gambling transactions. Take the daily cash withdrawal limit down to a low amount and try not to carry cash around. If you can turn over your banking to someone else, even better but at least have someone to check you app so you have accountability. Hey receipts for everything you spend and put them in a pot for someone to check.

In terms of building up accountability, coming on here each day, reading posts and going to the chatrooms which are text only so help. GA meetings in person or online also help.

Speak to the advisors on here who are amazing and maybe ask about counselling.

Once you have the above in place which will give you a solid foundation to start building on then you can start rewiring your brain and thinking.

Happy to talk more then if you would like

Lovely to chat to you in the chat room last night Liv. Though it was my 2nd night, I found it very helpful.  I hope you did too!

Hope to see you there again tonight.

Take care and take Stuarts advice of just thinking of today.  Early doors for me, but this advice worked yesterday.

Kylie x

@lp5vut869c thank you I have signed up to sense it’s one of the first things I did . I will certainly look into changing my bank as this will make things a lot easier for me going forward . I appreciate your advice and will be making these changes going forward

How's it going Liv ? Have you managed to build up anymore multilayers of friction between you and that first bet. That foundation is so important to the and make it extremely difficult to bet. The you can't start working on removing the compulsion to bet

Hi Liv

You really only need to get recovery right, once. You sound like you are going to use the relapse to power you forward. Relapses happen all the time in the recovery sector, you have picked yourself back up and back on the recovery road. I'm sure you have learned a lot for those early days so you are moving on from there, not back to the start
