Hello,

I'm 30 and have been gambling bad for 7 years. I started out with horse racing but the last few years mainly online casinos and some bar etabs.

I've lost thousands upon thousands of dollars. I lost a 6 figure paying job and just lost my back up job as a bartender. Both were largely do to my gambling problems. My longtime girlfriend is fed up and sad and not sure what to do.  After I lost my high paying job we had to move back to our parents houses.

I am currently helping my brother at his woodshop for money but it isn't much. The debt I have accumulated from gambling is overwhelming. Credit cards are personal loans. I also have student loan well overdue. I went to school to be an attorney I can't get my license until I start paying back some of the debt. On top of all this my girlfriend spends nearly $50 a day on Kratom and is struggling to quit. The knowledge of how much I've lost and how much I need to pay back to get to where I was 5 years ago is so difficult.

I hate hating myself.

I installed gamban today and signed up for this chat. Any advice y'all have would be great. Wish me luck and good luck to any of you that are struggling with gambling as well.

Hi Daniel

Welcome to Gamcare. You are in a safe place and a great community. I guess you are in the States or Canada and everyone is welcome here. I use this site and also the Evive app which is USA and Canada based. I would suggest using both as they both hold different aspects to help and two amazing communities.

If you want to join Evive as well then just go to your apps store and type get Evive. Once you are on there if you post then you have two great communities to offer support and ideas to you.

Can I ask a few questions ? If you can give me a tiny bit more background then I can give you some suggestions.

Have you tried giving up before ? Were you gambling pretty much every day and for what sort of periods ? Don't worry about values as that is irrelevant.

As a back story and I'm pretty bored of the shame for this but I gambled for 44 years, every day and the last ten years were sheer chaos. I'm now 139 days gamble free but it's taken a lot of work and learning. I'm sure I can help if you are prepared to put in the work. What you put into recovery you get out ten fold. There is an amazing life ahead of you and you've got a great chance to live one stopping at 30. I would love to help people not get to where I've ended up
