Just been paid and lost £300

Why do I keep doing this time over and over again when I really can't afford to.

Because, like us, you are caught up in the addiction...No other explanation I'm afraid!

Plenty of help & support available here as you probably know you just have to reach out for it - ODAAT

Hi Ryan-000,

Welcome to the forum, and well done for posting here.

It seems like you’re struggling to control your finances due to your gambling problem, and thus it’ll benefit you to seek professional help and support now.

You didn’t give much away in your story so we are not sure the type of gambling you engage in, thus we have to look at it in both ways.

In case you gamble at the Casino/ bookies, then I suggest that you go for Self Exclusion from all the places you gamble from right away. Pls. make sure you go for the maximum time ban in order to get used to the idea of not gambling at those places.

Meanwhile, try and find some other forms of activities/ hobbies to replace your spare time (gambling time). This would help you to avoid boredom, as boredom is one of the contributory factors that make people relapse when they’re in recovery.

Invariably, if you gamble online, it would be advisable to install one of the following internet blocking software on your computer/laptop/ mobile phone, to stop you from accessing gambling sites: -

Gamblock, Betfilter and Net Nanny. Pls. read about all of them first before choosing, and go for the one that you think would give you the maximum benefit.

We can also offer you 12 sessions of free counselling in case you think that would help you to overcome your gambling problem. If so, then contact our free phone Helpline on: 0808 8020 133, and speak to one of our advisers for a counselling referral. Our lines are open everyday from 8.00am to midnight.

Thanks again for your post, and pls. keep posting.

Kind regards,

Beatrice
