Hi,

This is my first post, so be gentle.

I am a problem gambler. I have been so for many years now and have lost a lot, put myself in a lot of debt and gain nothing but misery from gambling. I have tried to give up many times but failed, using chatrooms and counselling. I only seem to gamble when I have spare money, and will only gamble upto a point where I know I have enough money left to cover bills and nothing else. This leaves me between pay days not being able to do a thing, which makes me even more miserable. I don't know what to do anymore and can't go on like this. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi ash - Try to log on each day and read the stories here - you'll find a lot of support and understanding. How about starting a Diary? - see the 'Recovery diaries' section.

You seem to imply that you are in control of your gambling in that you can stop before you lose all your money. I think a lot of people here will tell you that your way is a dangerous game. It is obviously impinging on your life as you have no money for 'extras' between one payday and the next, so please consider strategies to stop completely so that you can start to have 'real' money in your account.

Best wishes for the journey.

Joanna

You're not alone, phone GamCare, I was surprised at how helpful they were.

Self exclude yourself from everywhere you bet. And hand over control of your finances to somebody else for a while. When you need money to do something between paydays, you can get it, but it won't be there for you to waste.

Good Luck

James
