I have a gambling problem. Those few words mean so much. Ive been gambling money on different online site for a while now and Run up debts on credit cards. I've lied to the people closest to me and taken money off them. My secret life so to speak was exposed at the start of the week and in a way im glad I got caught I can finally stop lying. For what the future holds I don't honestly know. It's not just the money I've lost its the love and respect of the people closest to me seeing the hurt in there eyes is the worst thing. I will beat this and given a chance hopefully prove I can be trusted.

I'm not looking for sympathy if this first step of many helps me beat my demon's then it's all worth it.

Leon

Fella welcome to the forum a place where indeed you will find a wealth of help and support and some truly amazing advice.

Gambling will take all you have to give and more too, I went at it for twenty years before it all came crashing down around me, my own life had become one lie after another, cheating, stealing and forgoing the bills all to chase a pipe dream for me in the form of the fobt.

I set out on my own recovery journey in january 2012,since then I foolishly gave three hours back to addiction to try and fix a temporary cash flow problem, the result we both know the outcome of, more financial problems.

My advice is simple, be honest from off the bat, don't try to hide any debt, it will not serve you well in the long term, yes things will be difficult, folk will question your every move, where every penny is spent.

The advice gifted to me on my first days recovery

still works today

There is a triangle

Time-Money-Location

Take one away at all times and the punt becomes impossible, gifting you the chance to re train your addled brain, there is no cure for the compulsion to gamble.

But there is plenty of help, this forum, counselling,GA your family and friends can all be great tools, self exclude get blocking software for your computer, they will all result in the same thing

A 100% payrise against your gambling, the mantra whilst gambling for us all is the same

I CANNOT WIN BECAUSE I CANNOT STOP.

you have the chance to change that, the choice is there it is free, each day we all have that choice to make.

Embrace it fella, the results are amazing, all you have to do is really want it.

I hope to see your recovery progress here, never give up giving up.

Most of all be kind to yourself

Today you did something amazing

Duncs stepping forward never back.
