I have tried many times quitting to no success and this was frustrating to say the least
All them feeling of being a scumbag and lowlife comes back.
But this is what I found helped me, The brain likes feeling nice, the buzz of winning to a gambler the high to a coke user, once it is taking away the brain knows how to get what it wants, I had heard from people with other addictions the best way to get off something is to get on something else.
Sounds somewhat crazy I know, but I got in to thinking about this and around the same time my wife was going church and I decided, well she decided I should go too, now don’t get me wrong this is not a preach.
As I took an active roll in the church helping at charity events having Jesus in my life the gambling just stopped. So why?
The fact is I had filled the void with something else a new addiction, For me that was Jesus for you it might be sports or a hobbies or family time, but one thing I know is that when you take the addiction away you really do need to fill it back up.
I'n my opinion we look at addiction all wrong, we push the user away and by user in my case i mean gambleing addict someone who as blown thousands
It's easy to hate and shout at a person like me for what I have done and look at me like s**m and say HAND OVER THE BANK CARDS NOW!!!
Instead I was given love from the new people around me, true to say most did not know I had a problem but it put me on the right path just feeling the kindness of some people
There was once a test on rats, one water bottle filled with water and one filled with coke, that rat all went for the coke water, but the cage was empty and dull
Years later a man repeated the test but he made rat heaven, and it was filled with all sorts of good things that rats like including female rats, and they placed the water bottles, one had water and the other coke/water, Not one rat went back to the coke water,
In the vietnham war 20% of troops was on heroin the USA government was extremly worrid about this but nearly all the men just got one with there lives drug free,
So why was this? The reason was the void was filled
FILL THE VOID when im weak I think of what keeps me strong
Affected by gambling?
