Yo,,

So my thoughts this morning .... Are about life without gambling .

Had a text this morning from my youngest , who for those who have followed my thread will know , after years of homelessness and drug addiction, has turned her life around and is taking an access course for uni .

After which she hopes to Tavel the world in particular Africa and educate people on mental health issues .

Last week she handed in her first assignment . She has been on tender hooks about it , feeling the result would give her an indication of if she was up to this ( we know she is but to convince her is impossible) , she text me to say she got a distinction and is really made up.

When I was gambling , I did not totally dismiss my family or anything like that . But lately me and my daughter talk more, without my thoughts veering to guilt about the implications of what damage my gambling did, or avoiding talking to her cause my mind which was on overload can not take any more . Or rushing out the house to get my fix before I start work .

Those days are long gone( I hope) . When we first stop , we think that it's all bout money, but that is such a small part of the benefits which stopping can bring .

Anyone newly in recovery reading this stick with it, cause in a month , 6 , a year you will be amazed at how your life improves in so many ways .

What a lovely way to start a Monday morning! A very uplifting post. You're entitled to be proud of your offspring for turning their life around. And they should be proud of you for the same reason. There are some good genes in that family, full of hope and determination. Shine on my friend!

Hi Shiny,

A big well done to your daughter what a fantastic acheivement, I wonder where she gets it from ?. Its so nice to see posts where we can acknowledge and recognise the positive impact and changes that we experience in recovery.

I can really relate to you post because I am experiencing the same thing with my eldest, no more strained/stressed conversations and daily things get better.

Hope you can catch up on some rest/sleep soon. Im sure you couldnt stand the shipping forecast 2 nights on the run lol.

Have a great day shiny

wow...I don't know where to start....as I stated on my status...I would read your story and get back to you..... little did I realise it was a 3 dayer in the making....but I feel to understand your story and know it as you took the time to read mine...then only by reading its entirety can I do it justice. You are quite frankily an astounding person. You are eternal hope for others....there will be others like you on this forum I am sure...those who are stepping out of the dark after months and months (or years) of toil and making new life choices safe in the knowledge the demons are now tightly packed away again to ensure they won't make any impromtu appearances.....I can't wait to reach your stage....you don't need my congratulations but I offer them anyhow....your honesty and determination are traits I know I share with you...Its all about finding them for me....and reading your back catalouge has helped somewhat....so I also Thank You for that.

Shiny.

I am so made up for you and your daughter,I do see so many parrallels with your posts, yes we were there for our families whilst at it,over compensating on there emotions, not having a voice, because we had gambled the right???

Today there we stand at the hub once again, earned the right to have a voice, not a minute to waste, rewards to be had.And with irony the times we used to feed our emotions into that note slot, lonely, devoid of feeling except for the machine, the big win!! Then the cycle began again, the walk of shame, the over compensating.

You did get off your roundabout, you are your own salvation and from that my dear friend there are so many benifits, today thanks for sharing a big one!!!!

duncs compulsive gambler NO BET today.

stepping forward never back.
