I posted a few week ago in the newbie forum's.
I currently have 77p left out of my £1500 overdraft.
I got a loan a week ago today for ВЈ250 to see me through until my next student finance pay day. But I've blew all that on the slots. I've won around £400 withdrew it all and blew it all again.
Enough is enough now!! I realise I'm so impulsive. Even my doctor has said it to me. As he knows about my gambling issues! I want it all,but quickly! I don't think about the consequences. I just think in the moment.
I'm a student doing a degree, I'm in my second year. My education is suffering due to gambling and numerous other health issues.

I've just got a part time job and I want to be able to keep the money from that job and not spend it on the horrible slot sites.

So I guess what I'm saying is this is my day 1 and first hour of not gambling.

Wish me luck; because I think I'm going to need it!

Hello mate, welcome to the site.

I have a very similar situation to yourself. I have a 1500 overdraft and a year after leaving university I still haven't paid it off. i have tried numerous of times to stop and finally I am 5 days in to not gambling and it does feel really good, but you need to be strong.

Being at university I know is a very hard deal monetary wise, as when you have money you feel it is great, but as soon as you spend money, you feel the only way to live through uni is to try and gamble the money to earn more, and in the end we just end up spending all our money on gambling. It would be really interesting to see how far money goes if we didn't gamble in the first place.

You have done your first step by coming on here, that is the biggest thing. By coming on here you have accepted that you have a problem, but you need to hold onto that thought. I was told by one man on here that there is a triangle and it makes a lot of sense and can really help. Money-Time-Location. Take one of them away at all times and the idea of gambling becomes impossible.

I first thought I would be able to do it out of my own willpower. You won't. Take yourself off the online slots, self-exclude and get someone to put a password with blocking software on your laptop so you cannot access gambling sites. Go into the bookies on the high street and self exclude. I self-excluded from 9 shops in my city today and walked out feeling a very positive thought. Normally it would be 'When is the next time I can put a bet on' but now it's 'I cannot physically put a bet on' and that will help.

But well done for coming on here in the first place. Talk, hour by hour, day by day, it's a slow process but you will get through it.

We cannot win as we cannot stop.

All the best
