Right Mrs D & all you lovely Gamcarers, time for an update...

It's 2058 & my 6th night as a wife (snigger) is well underway! We're out in Lanza-not-as-grotty as I remember it & unless you count 2 lots of half hour exercise & a massage as 4 days well spent we have done nothing but eat & sleep since we got here. The factor 30 is doing my ginger skin proud & the beached whale that is the NM is slowly coming round to my way of thinking since the jelly belly hasn't seen the sun since childhood!

There appears to be no scope for gambling within the hotel (although admittedly, there is free WiFi but this wasn't my poison) & I don't recall seeing anything but boats & restaurants in Puerto Calero which is refreshing to say the least 🙂

I still can't quite believe how much better life is in recovery, even the down days, & even though my relationship with money is still unstable, I'm making progress - ODAAT

Bah, just read loads more posts of people relapsing & leaving doors open...WHY?!? How many diaries have you read from people saying they are cured, back gambling again only this time they're in control & winning...None, that's how many! Get real people, recovery won't come to you...Get barriers up, get help (GA, Gamcare, counselling, anything that is out there), tell loved ones (ensure they know there is help out there for them too) & accept their support!

There is no cure guys, for us compulsive gamblers, living in harmony with our addictions is as good as it gets...We have to choose 'no' like it's an allergy, there are no guns @ our heads!

I know I have a very long journey ahead but if I can do it after an extremely unsuccessful gambling career spanning the best part of 3 decades, anyone can - ODAAT

Odaat

My dear friend I would like that printed on a t-shirt.

Or maybe made up as a business card which I could discuss freely with all the winners I often endure!

But the thing is that was you or I was it not?

We have walked in those shoes, worn holes in the bottom of them.

Keep on keeping on my friend, because from it other recoveries will be born

We are testament to that.

I am honoured to stand by your side.

Abstain and maintain

Duncs stepping forward never back

Hello ADAAT

Thanks for posting on my diary. You are right about putting barriers up.

I had savings of 1k recently and without barriers I blew the lot. I then went into my overdraft by £500.

It saddened me as i was debt free after 12 years and actually had savings.

I am due 1k next year so i will clear my overdraft. But I am in a better place financially but i find the temptation to gamble is also greater.

Good luck Addat in your continued recovery.
