i had not gambled for 2 months, I was addicted for the last 12 years and I’m in debt due to it, but I had a stressful day today and I’ve just blown all last months wages and more, not sure what I can do to explain this to my other half, he’s leaving if I gambled again ...... but he doesn’t understand the addiction, I’m on the verge of giving up..........I think gambling is the worst addiction

Hi Kirsty,

Thanks for reaching out, you've made a big first step.

Quite often family and friends do struggle to understand what is actually going on for the problem gambler, which can leave them feeling unsupported and isolated. However, it is great to hear that you were able to be gamble free for two months and this shows that recovery is possible. It sounds like you could really do with talking it all over with one of our advisers and making a plan for recovery to get you into a better place. We can also speak to your partner to help him understand the issues involved with gambling. It is important that you don't feel alone in all this , so please feel free to give our helpline a call or contact us via our Netline chat. We are here 24/7.

Best wishes,

Hi Kirsty,

I'm sorry to hear you're in crisis but this is the best place to make huge changes in your life. I've relapsed many, many times and everything I've put in another block so gambling isn't easy when a bad day arrives. Something that gave me a lot of comfort and inspiration is a book you can buy for a couple of pounds online called 'Overcoming problem gambling by Alex Blaszczynski. It really gives you such strength that you can overcome this sick addiction. Another book which is also excellent is by Alan Carr, not the comedian. I haven't read it yet but lots of people on here recommend it. I self excluded from all the bookmakers in my city and joined Gamban so can no longer gamble online. You can get through this, I've been through hell but in these dark places we learn a lot.

I wish you all the best.

Stuart
