Hi
My last bet was 21 June 2016. I thought I'd introduce myself, as i have already gained strength & hope through people's posts, to try & rid myself of this compulsion.
Im 50 and been a CG since 15. Started out in arcades, fruit machines in snooker clubs, bookies through to FOBT'S.
All my life ive sought to escape problems through gambling. The "Action" mattered most to forget me.... if that makes sense? I dtill have those mental, emotional problems but am determined to get rid of gambling. Its killing me!
Not counting the days since my last bet as i view that as a negative... ie Not gambling ie each day is hard going. Quite the opposite, i find each day GF opens up possibilities for me. Again, makes sense? Just thoughts. Anyway its nice to introduce myself to likeminded people.

Hello jay155

Welcome to the forum.

Good realization of why you gamble. You might find taking action in the form of the GamCare helpline, free GamCare counselling or GA beneficial in further helping you with your problems.

Not sure if you are using the barriers and blocks available to help you stop. Expect you're aware of them if you've read around the forum.

I don't see counting days as a negative - some do. That's fine, some things will help some but not others. It's about trying things, finding what works for you and discarding what doesn't, but keep looking to improve.

Stopping gambling will certainly open up new possibilities - look forward to reading about you taking them.

Best wishes

Glint

Hello Glint.
Thanks for your post. Means alot. Ive self excluded from all online gambling sites, closed accounts etc. A positive step.
Today has been a good day. No urges. After years of self sabotage i couldnt take it any.more. Ive a head full of worries but determined to stay GF, Slowly clear a mountain of debt & put family & friends first. I am going on an art course with my friend on wednesday. A plus already from stopping. Tho challenging for me, being social activity etc I am determined to have a good day. Thanks again

Hi again
May take that advice of Gamcare counselling on board. Will certainly explore it. Thanks.
