Today marks the day of putting my all into quitting gambling. I’ve gambled since I turned 18 and I don’t even want to think of how much I’ve lost in that process.

It’s difficult saying you’re quitting for good as one half of me is still hitting myself for using GameStop and Gamban making it way too difficult to put a quick bet on but the other half wants to go on without gambling.

As if 2 days ago I gambled everything I had left but fortunately enough my bills were paid before I started and I live with my partner who takes care of the food shopping so in that sense I am luckier than most. I always find it difficult to talk to anyone about it as I don’t feel anyone understands, it’s a joke to some mates and I’m an idiot to my partner who wants to live like royalty. Even to ex drug/alcohol users they don’t see it the same way, they don’t see that with gambling you can lose your life in a minute, you can plummet from the happiest man alive to a pit of pure desperation and depression.

I’m hoping to mark this day as the day I stop forever, I’m feeling pretty positive and like I said GameStop and gamban are in place and I’m also scheduling some cbt to help recondition my mind.

If anyone else has any ideas to keep me on the right track they will be welcomed!

Hello @landon and welcome to the forum.

It’s great that you are thinking so positively and looking at steps forward by making some changes already with GamStop, GamBan and some CBT, also admitting to yourself that you have a gambling problem is certainly a big step. Well done.

As I am sure you will find, the Forum is a welcoming and supportive space which allows you to talk to others who may also be experiencing similar issues to yourself.

Have you thought about any hobbies or interests that you could do to take the focus away from the gambling. This would add some fulfilment and enjoyment into your recovery. Making some changes in your routine and lifestyle can have a real positive impact on your recovery and wellbeing.

Should you be in need of any further support with your recovery, please feel free to contact the helpline on 0808 8020 133 or via our live chat available from the website https://www.gamcare.org.uk/get-support/talk-to-us-now/  both of which are open seven days a week, 24 hours a day and where one of our advisers will be able to talk, for as long as you need, and look at all the support available to you.

Wishing you all the very best,

Regards

Dan
