Hello all,

Finally signed up tonight and briefly dipped into the chat room for the first time and decided it’s finally time to get help and support, I have never really spoken to anyone about my addiction before or sought help so here’s goes, here’s a brief intro…

I am 46 years old and have been a compulsive gambler for over 30 years and must of wasted over 500k!

It all started with fruit machines and football bets moving onto online slots and football bets. I managed to stop the online slots but could never stop with the football bets it has literally ruled and ruined my life for years.

I now find myself hitting rock bottom after losing everything including my job due to dishonesty to feed my horrible addiction removed link My stress and anxiety is through the roof and finding it very difficult to find a job to help on my road to recovery.

I feel so ashamed and useless to get myself in such a hole at my age and with responsibilities of having 2 children and a loving partner to support I really do hate myself.

On a positive note I have blocked all betting sites for 5 years and am now 32 days gamble free although this is mainly due to not having access to any funds since I don’t have a wage coming in at the moment but I really do not ever want to gamble again in my whole life but 1 day at a time.

Reading some of the posts and story’s especially Stuart’s and others have really given me comfort and determination to start afresh and try and have the confidence to move forwards.

Any help guidance and advice are much appreciated and needed.

Thanks for reading.

Neo

Hi Neo,

I am also new here. I joined the chatroom for the first time last night too and everyone was so kind and friendly, not that I expected any different but this is new to me too and I guess maybe I was worried.

I am 31 and have been gambling for a few years, it started with football bets then slots, I gamstopped a few years ago but then I came across competition pages which unfortunately gamstop doesn't apply too.

This month I spent an entire wage in one sitting I have never done that before, I knew before now I had a problem with gambling but I think after spending all that in one go has really made me realise.

My partner has bailed me out numerous times, I can see its destroying him but I was selfish and kept doing it.

Good luck on your journey and I am sure we will meet in a chat soon 🙂

take care

Hi Charsbar

Thanks for your reply, I do believe we are in the right place for help and support from this terrible addiction, and like you said everyone is so welcoming and friendly.

Admitting to having a problem and putting blocks in place and talking about it on here is a good start, it took me a long time to build up the courage but this small step is a good start.

Football bets were my downfall I would be betting on any game any country some teams you would never of heard of all day every day blowing my wages each and every month it ruled my life.

I always knew I had a problem but never sought help, until recently devastatingly losing my job due to my compulsive gambling it’s now time to wake up to reality and change for the better.

No more gambling no more selfishness no more wasting every penny, the past is the past here’s to the future. 33days gamble free.

Hope to see you in the chat soon!
