So my story is pretty much a carbon copy of most gamblers, hide my deposits and gambling from others ,addiction was my secret ,each month on payday gamble, win or lose never mattered as i always carried on until zero. So just before Christmas I won a few grand ,then just carried on , began loosing it back, won it back ,loosing again, today lost 2.7 k back, then i don't know what happened, but I suddenly said to myself the remaining 1.3k is alot of money, which I never had before ,I immediately self excluded from my online accounts, and then I told my mother ,I had this exact amount of money in the bank, and it was a wonder sense of relief ,I am never going to get that money back, the money left is still winnings, but now that I disclosed the amount of money to my mother, that money is now essentially locked away, because I just cant justify using it for anything ,because the things I need I have, I feel so relieved because my finances are now transparent, I have self exclusion in place so very happy about that .

Well done to you for stopping and coming to your senses before losing the lot! Good to hear that your remaining money is safe and more importantly, you have self excluded.  I would suggest, for even more protection, install Gamstop and Gamban on all your devices and put gambling blocks on any debit cards you have.

Wishing you the very best of luck in your recovery/journey.

Hi @robert1979

That's great you spoke to your mother and had that open communication. As you say, the secret life of a gambler means that lying is part of the behaviours of an addict.

It's also great that you have self excluded yourself. Also, remember there are various support groups/mentoring options if you feel you will need that with your recovery but it sounds like you have taken a step in the right direction so keep up the good work!

Wishing you all the best!

Jade
