Hi everyone. I've now gone 2 whole weeks without gambling. To normal people that doesn't seem much but to me and probably you it's a lifetime. I've stopped before of course I have but for some reason this seems different and I'd like to share what I'm doing different this time so maybe it'll help some of you as well .

I won't walk in a bookies anymore, I used to convince myself I could go in to read the racing post without having buta bet  I was just kidding myself , this doesn't happen . If I walk in I bet , I know that now so I don't enter the place at all. I've got rid of all my online accounts , I used to have one for emergencies but that just sucked me back in time after time . I don't go out with much money anymore, just enough for what I need for the day .

I remind myself of that feeling I get when I lose big, that heart beating , sweating , can't sleep , gutted disappointed feeling that you have to go through every time until you gradually start to feel better . This is the important thing for me , usually the horrible feeling subsides and that's when you bet again because you forget how bad it felt and before you know it boom you lose again and you can't believe you're back in the same situation.

I think it's a good idea to write down that feeling when you've lost , that feeling when you wake up in the morning and feel dejected and start to realise the impact on your life that losing all that money is going to have . When you feel like you're better and might be considering a bet again read the words you wrote down and remember the feelings.

All I can say is I feel so much better now , every morning I wake up and I have no negative feelings but I also know I've been here before. I'm going on holiday in a few weeks and can't wait to have a beer by the beach with the thought in my head that I haven't gambled for over a month . Fingers crossed I can do this , good luck to all of you .

Hi Conor, I totally can relate to these feelings. Waking up and having that terrible feeling. Thinking you need to win it all back. I have recently quit after coming to the realisation that it’s not worth it. The bookies always win! I will continue to enjoy sport. My girlfriends been very supportive. I hope you have a great holiday and stay in track all the best!
