The trouble with us addict's is that we always look for somewhere to lay the blame , maybe time to save our energy for the fight ahead and look inside ourselves for answer's .

My name is Alan and I'm a compulsive gambler :))

A good night to all in recovery .

This has probably been suggested before, but why cant there be a stipulation that when you register to a new gambling site that you must provide ID at that point. As we all know, at present you can register and deposit within minutes, however they're quick to ask for all manner of ID when you want to withdraw.

It should clearly be the other way around. It's common sense and would come with the following two major benefits:

A) it will act as a deterrent to people if they know they need to mess about scanning passports etc as quite often CG like myself do things on a whim. Time spent providing ID etc. is time that could help us reevaluate what we are doing. Additionally, since I often have my lapses late at night/early hours when I've had a drink, it would pretty much veto any chances I have of registering there and then.

B) CGs could submit their ID to a national self exclusion database which, when we try to register on a new site and provide our ID, a red flag would be waved and prevent the account/deposit being made.

Isn't this a simple and obvious solution to many online gambling issues or am I just being naive?

I think that you in my experience you are being naive. It just becomes white noise... something to distract from the addiction. Online and land-based gambling is a business that exists to make $$$ and unfortunately they are not concerned with the 5% of the population that are compulsive gamblers.

As Allan says using your energy to look after yourself would probably be better spent.

If you go to the gambling commission website a national self exclusion for online operators is being introduced in 2017

It's good to see different points of view on this. I think it's absolutely correct that it's a case of 'wont' as opposed to 'can't' when it comes to the checking of ID at point of registration.

If it's correct about a national self exclusion being introduced next year, then I think it's fantastic news.

Obviously you're never going to eradicate all options available to a CG, but even if a small percentage are prevented from being snared by online sites, then it's got to be considered a huge step forward.

National self exclusion would be fantastic.. don't know how many times I've set excluded after checking the bank balance only to go register on other sites in a day or so

Same here, Angierey...I've lost count.

Hi again, Allainepo. I'm doing well thank you, 7 days and counting...still feeling strong but having a night out with drinks on Saturday so that'll be the real test...

Haven't really thought too much about gambling this last week but still get that flutter whenever I see a gambling advert and find myself thinking, 'that's a good offer' before quickly snapping out of it.

Thanks again for your wise words.
