Hi all,

I have been in debt for what I could only guess is 3/4 years, but within that time period for anywhere between 10-20 loans ( I am in the process of trying to make a timeline of when I took out each loan)

I am going through emails I have kept seems only from 2024 at the moment from bank loans, and possibly credit cards come under this to see how many loans I have taken out, most of which would be in the thousands of pounds, and would last anywhere between a couple to a couple months until, I would just take a new one out to pay for the old one and give me more money.

Most of the time this would have been because I have either gambled all my money or wanted more money to gamble with.

The whole point of this post is, has anyone ever tried to get financial redress from a situation similar to mine, if so how did you go about it and how?

I have read that it is possible to get interest and fees repaid from banks for irresponsible lending but don't even know where to begin...

I am no expert but financial institutions must have tick boxes and will get away with it. I can see you spending an enormous amount of time fighting a lost cause and getting yourself more stressed. That said, I am not an expert.

I got caught up in trying to get over 35 online gambling accounts who certainly didn't adhere to responsible gambling, to pay me some form of refunds. Absolute waste of time and I gave up as it was upsetting me when I needed to concentrate on recovery

I did manage to get some money back. I went through a company, however they took 25%. If you don't try you don't get. Some ended up going to the financial ombudsman but they chose to punish the companies and I got some money back. I recommend doing this alone rather than through a separate company, however they do operate a no win no fee option so does take away some stress. You will need to dig out lots of evidence but it's worth it if you get some success.

Good luck, and stay strong 👍

I should have mentioned that there is an amazing free of charge site run by the government called Resolver. Have you tried using that because they have to reply to you and you can escalate etc. You don't pay anything at all

Hello,

Yes, I have. I put affordability complaints in to every credit line I had. I was being given credit when I had more debt than my annual salary.
I have had almost every complaint upheld and interest removed or refunded.

You can do this yourself, I used the templates on the debt camel website, it just takes a few minutes to do. If they are rejected by the lender, send on to the ombudsman (again, very easy).

Good luck 🙂

Hi,

Thanks all for your comments and advice. I have sent off complaints to 3 lenders. Did not use any templates which may be something I look to do if they reject them. One other I couldn't really find a way to submit a compliant without ringing, so haven't got round too.

Just waiting for the other 3 to get back to me after they have reviewed. Did not submit any evidence as was not asked to, but I am sure they will ask for after their replies, if not I have it ready anyway.

I got all my bank statements saved and filed for the 2 years, as well as a spreadsheet documenting all lending and borrowing received during the period along with associated costs.

If anything it was interesting/ eye opening to see how crazy them times were...

Thanks again all 🙂
